Every product we provide via Period Dignity is made by Grace & Green, an award -winning period care brand, which uses GOTS certified organic cotton or Oeko-Tex organic bamboo. Everything we produce is vegan.

Conventional cotton is one of the world’s most polluting crops so we made a conscious decision to use only 100% certified organic cotton or bamboo. If you’re not sure what that means, here’s more information about Organic Cotton and Bamboo and our certifications.

Better for the Planet

Non-organic cotton is one of the world’s most heavily treated crops, accounting for 10% of the world’s pesticide use. Organic cotton uses 71% less water and 62% less energy than traditional cotton. Bamboo is a superplant. It requires 30% less water to grow than trees, and requires no irrigation.

Better for You

Organic cotton and bamboo are softer, more durable and better for you. We don’t chlorine-bleach any of our materials and all our products are free from artificial fragrances, dyes, deodorants, or rayon. Naturally soft and gentle, our organic period products are hypoallergenic, pH neutral and perfect for sensitive skin.

Better for Others

It’s much safer to work around organic cotton and bamboo as pesticides can be deadly. Workers and farmers may breathe in their fumes during the harvesting and manufacturing process.

Organic Bamboo

  • Bamboo can grow an astonishing 3 feet per day, that’s 30 times faster than trees!

  • Bamboo absorbs 30% more C02 and releases 30% more oxygen than hardwood trees.
  • Bamboo is a completely self-generating grass that requires no pesticides or fertilisers.

  • Bamboo requires 30% less water to grow than trees and requires no irrigation.

  • Within only 3-5 years, bamboo is ready to be harvested, compared to 35-60 years for hardwood trees.

  • Within 6 months of harvesting, new bamboo is already regrowing/maturing, unlike hardwood trees.

Organic Cotton

  • Organic cotton is grown without harmful chemicals, leaving the soil, air and water free from contaminants.
  • Organic cotton produces around 46% less CO2e compared to conventional cotton.

  • It also needs far less water to grow, since organic cotton growers typically utilise rain far more than irrigation.
  • Organic cotton supports small farmers. Around 222,000 farmers in 19 countries grow organic cotton.
  • Within only 3-5 years, bamboo is ready to be harvested, compared to 35-60 years for hardwood trees.
  • In many developing countries, cotton is an important foreign exchange earner, often grown in remote rural areas helping to integrate small farmers into economic cycles.
